Nostalgia and ‘Saudade’

Nostalgia is despised by me. A longing for a past — especially pasts that had never existed — is futile.

But I could not help but feel it when I recently discovered a bakery that not only looks like the ones I found more than 20 years ago, just before a time when things were not made to look appetizing, they were made to taste good and make people converse.
